Position Summary | The Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation (MMI) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is accepting applications for a Biomedical or Biomechanics Researcher at open faculty rank (Rank DOQ) with a Health Professions appointment (tenured or tenure-track). The faculty member will join a rich academic and clinical environment with established collaborations in the Departments of Physical Therapy, Severe Behavior Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology, and Psychology. The ideal candidate will have expertise in virtual and augmented reality methods and experience with one or more of the following areas: wearable technology, machine learning, motion capture, or assistive technologies. Faculty members will receive dedicated research space and protected time for scholarship. Candidates will be expected to maintain an externally funded research program and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of researchers and clinicians at MMI and UNMC. Candidates will also be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students, graduate students, fellows, and junior faculty scholars. MMI researchers are part of a global scientific community and collaborate with faculty in departments across UNMC, University of Nebraska-Omaha, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Creighton University, Boys Town, and Children’s Hospital. Researchers at MMI mentor graduate students from multiple programs, including the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences, MD/PhD program, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln. MMI also has a robust program for training undergraduate students in research. The research technology laboratory includes a large laboratory space (including virtual reality hardware and software, motion capture system, omnidirectional treadmill, wearable technology devices), a maker space (including 3-D printers, 3-D scanner, laser cutter, programable sewing machine, electronics fabrication and testing equipment, CNC mill), private office, and cubicle space for staff, students, and trainees. About MMI: MMI is one of the largest and most comprehensive intellectual and developmental disability centers globally. Its mission is “to be world leaders in transforming the lives of all individuals with disabilities and complex health care needs, their families, and the community through outreach, engagement, premier educational programs, innovative research, and extraordinary patient care.” MMI employs an interdisciplinary team approach to ensure the integration of its four pillars: research, clinical services, education, and community engagement. It is one of eight academic units of UNMC.
MMI recently moved into a 220,000 sq ft award-winning, state-of-the-art facility designed to support and integrate research, clinical services, and community engagement.
