Position Summary | An NIH/NIGMS-funded postdoctoral scientist position is available to study unique aspects of chlamydial physiology in the laboratory of Dr. Scot Ouellette in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Chlamydia is an obligate intracellular bacterium that is the leading cause of bacterial sexually transmitted infections. As a developmentally regulated bacterium, Chlamydia utilize novel mechanisms to differentiate, divide, and develop. The successful candidate will lead experiments to probe the unique features of cell division and polarized membrane growth in this unusual bacterium. Ideal candidates will have a PhD obtained within the past three years in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, or cell biology with related skill-sets. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, independent, and hypothesis-driven scientist who will be expected to participate in training of graduate and younger students, lab meetings, and other duties appropriate to the applicant’s career goals. Start date is negotiable. The Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology has over 60 faculty members, ~50 graduate students, and more than two dozen postdoctoral fellows and residents working in modern, well-equipped labs with state-of-the-art facilities.
