Pharmacy Technician (Retail) - DOC - Full-time

Position Highlights:

The Durham Outpatient Center (DOC) Pharmacy is located on the main Nebraska Medicine campus. Nebraska Medicine is able to offer a unique pharmacy work experience that provides opportunities for pharmacy technicians that cannot be found in a traditional pharmacy setting including Meds to Beds, pharmacy automation and caring for complex patients. Responsibilities of pharmacy technicians at the DOC Pharmacy include providing a positive patient experience, delivering medications to discharging patients and dispensing prescriptions to traditional patients seen in our clinics. Alongside pharmacists and in collaboration with our Central Fill pharmacy, DOC pharmacy technicians will enjoy focusing on direct patient interaction while our Central Fill pharmacy supports prescription order entry and patient phone calls.

Shift details:

  • Full Time & Benefits Eligible (1.0 FTE or 80 hours in a 2-week pay period)

  • First Shift: Varied 8.5-hour day shifts

  • Shifts are templated on a 6-week repeating schedule

  • Monday - Friday shifts between 7am and 7:30pm (maximum of one closing shift per week, 11am - 7:30pm)

  • One weekend (Saturday & Sunday from 8am - 4:30pm) every 6th week with one weekday off before and one weekday off after scheduled weekend

Retail Pharmacy Technician - Duties

Prepares and dispenses medication upon receiving prescription from prescribers and processes all related duties under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.

  • Ability to attend and successfully complete 160 hours of on the job training required.

  • High school education or equivalent required.

  • Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand held calculator required.

  • Licensed Nebraska pharmacy intern or registered as a pharmacy technician with the State of Nebraska Board of Pharmacy required.

  • If registered as a Pharmacy Technician, certification within twelve months of registration date required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience which demonstrates analytical ability, judgment, and interpersonal skills in pharmacy or healthcare preferred.

  • College coursework in pharmacy preferred.

  • Ability to type 20 wpm (with error correction) preferred.
