Manager of Engineering - Infrastructure

The Engineering Manager - Infrastructure will be responsible for overseeing the infrastructure and operations related to hosting DMSi’s full suite of SaaS applications across all lines of business. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise in system administration and data center technologies, and a passion for ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Lead and mentor a team of systems engineers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  2. Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the infrastructure supporting our SaaS applications, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.  This includes management of 3rd-party private cloud/data center providers.
  3. Ensure the availability, performance, and security of servers, networks, and storage systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  4. Implement automation tools and processes to streamline deployment, configuration, and monitoring of SaaS application environments.
  5. Ensure the availability, performance, and security of the hosted applications and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  6. Lead the response to incidents and outages, coordinating with cross-functional teams to minimize downtime and resolve issues promptly. Conduct thorough post-incident reviews to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  7. Ensure that SaaS hosting environments meet regulatory compliance requirements and industry best practices for security and data protection as defined by the DMSi Information Security team.
  8. Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to forecast resource requirements and plan for capacity scaling as needed to support business growth.
  9. Manage cloud service providers, including on-premise, hosted private cloud, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, to optimize performance, cost, and resource utilization.
  10. Manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring SLAs are met and services are delivered according to contractual agreements.
  11. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the performance, reliability, and efficiency of SaaS hosting infrastructure and operations. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong technical skills in Linux/Unix systems administration, virtualization, containerization, and cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
Solid understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewalls.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Knowledge of business continuity and disaster recovery continuity of operations plans.
Knowledge of installation, integration, and optimization of system components.
Knowledge of human-computer interaction principles.
Knowledge of remote access technology concepts.
Knowledge of communication methods, principles, and concepts that support the network infrastructure.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent education.
5+ years of experience in system administration, infrastructure engineering, or cloud operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Normal office environment with use of computers and telephone systems; no unusual physical demands.
Travel to customer locations including overnight, business air travel, and car rental.
