The Creighton University School of Medicine – Phoenix is actively seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program Director.

 

The Program Director of Gastroenterology Fellowship Program is directly accountable to the Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) at Creighton University School of Medicine- Phoenix and the Chair at the training site where they are primarily based/employed. The Program Director will be provided with the required protected, non-clinical time dedicated to administration of the program. The Gastroenterology Program is a three-year, six fellow program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

 

In 2017, Creighton University, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Valleywise Health Medical Center, District Medical Group, and Dignity Health Medical Group entered a strategic partnership to strengthen and expand the Graduate Medical Education programs offered by each institution. The move brought together the administration of the residency and fellowship programs previously managed by each member under the Arizona Health Education Alliance, with Creighton University School of Medicine – Phoenix serving as the sponsoring entity.

 

St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center and Valleywise Health Medical Center will be the primary clinical sites. Creighton University School of Medicine-Phoenix is dedicated to training future generations of doctors who will lead the nation in providing outstanding hospital-based, ambulatory, and subspecialty care. Our program cultivates an environment of inquiry and collaboration where physicians at all stages of their careers can maximize their personal and professional growth in the challenging discipline of Gastroenterology.

 

Essential Responsibilities include:

 

·       Administer and maintain an environment conducive to educating the fellows in each of the ACGME core competency areas.

·       Oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education.

·       Develop and review program curricula.

·       Monitor fellow supervision at all participating sites.

·       Prepare and submit all information required and requested by ACGME, including but not limited to annual program updates in Web ADS, and ensure the information submitted is accurate and complete. Collaborate with DIO and GMEC on accreditation-related matters as needed.

·       Ensure compliance with sponsoring institution and participating site policies and procedures.

·       Regularly assess and promote fellow well-being while fostering an environment in which diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the forefront of fellows’ clinical and academic experiences.

·       Lead and participate in key areas of the program including fellow recruitment, Program Evaluation Committee, and serve as a non-voting member of the Clinical Competency Committee.

·       Develop opportunities for bidirectional communication with fellows and faculty.

·       Work with fellows, faculty, and clinical site partners to create systems such as schedules and programs that maximize fellow learning while minimizing disruption of clinical workflow, including but not limited to meeting procedure volumes.

·       Oversee and facilitate remediation processes as needed.

·       Provide each fellow with a documented semiannual evaluation of performance with feedback.

·       Develop processes for program faculty evaluation and continued participation of program faculty based on evaluation.

 

Minimum Requirements:

·       MD or DO degree and current certification in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine or by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, or subspecialty qualifications that are acceptable to the Review Committee

·       Current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment.

·       Specialty expertise and at least three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency or gastroenterology fellowship

·       Ongoing clinical activity and ongoing academic achievements in gastroenterology, including publications, the development of educational programs, or the conduct of research.

·       Must have or be eligible for State of Arizona medical licensure.

·       Ability to achieve full and unrestricted hospital privileges at Dignity Health Arizona hospitals and Valleywise Health Medical Center.

·       Strong interpersonal communication skills.

·       Ability to travel as needed between clinical training sites.
