A Brief Overview
The Security Supervisor, under the direction of the Security Manager, leads, organizes and directs the activities of the specific unit assigned of the Security Department as well as the physical security support services (CCTV, badging, alarms, and access control).Coordinates all Security Department trainings and conducts follow up investigations to include policy violations, criminal acts, complaints, and other events as assigned. Will review all security incident reports and use of force reports to recommend status of compliance, then complete or assign a Security Officer to complete any required follow up. May serve as the practice leader/advocate for security functions within the hospital and assigned CHS entities. Assists to ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements and provides a secure environment for patients, families, guests and staff. Supervises designated security staff and is accountable for staff performance in order to accomplish organizational and departmental strategic goals and objectives. Coordinates services and provides leadership for designated area and personnel.

Essential Functions

  • Defines operational standards and helps organize department-level activities to achieve optimum service delivery/systems/care/processes, while setting high performance objectives for his/her area. Holds self and others accountable to meet stated objectives, outcomes, goals, timetables and commitments, adhering to standards even in the face of unforeseen circumstances. Responsible for supervision of selected personnel, areas and other responsibilities. Will function as a Working Supervisor completing competency qualifications and routinely assume responsibility of shift commander on various shifts. Will routinely work on a work shift to augment staffing and provide leadership. Will provide direct supervision over senior security officers, security officers, and security control center operators. Will oversee parking enforcement, parking registration, and vehicle patrol services. Assist in reviewing and evaluating reports prepared by security staff regarding investigations. Supervise and/or conduct security programs for hospital staff. Assist in developing new procedures and approach safety and loss prevention based on reports of incident, accidents and other information. May assist in developing, reviewing and participating in safety training for hospital staff Greet and interact with visitors, vendors and other departments to provide assistance and support. May support and fill in as a Security Officer when needed. Informs the security manager of staff issues Liaisons with other department in the CHS organization in provisioning services. Evaluate Security Officers and make recommendations for discipline/reward to the Security Manager. Carry out the plans of the Security Manager. Responsible for coordinating and delivering training to Security Officers and other personnel within the security department. Conducting investigations on events reported through security incident reports or as assigned from the Security Manager or Security Supervisor. Will provide additional support and supervision to Security Officers, Senior Security officers and Control Center Operators. Will oversee the department Response to Resistance (use of force) training. Will oversee the Active Shooter/Armed Intruder response training. Assist in reviewing and evaluating reports prepared by security staff regarding investigations. Supervise and/or conduct security programs for hospital staff. May be assigned to other leadership responsibilities within the Security Department. May assume the role of Security Leader in the event of any emergency situation. Responds to critical incidents and represents the Security Manager in his/her absence Personnel Management Prioritizes and coordinates daily work activities. Provides leadership and guidance by sharing expertise with others. Trains and/or oversees the training of employees on job related tasks. Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/routine corrective actions, and recommending termination of employment. Manages staff scheduling on behalf of the security manager. Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations). May participate in selection, hiring, and salary recommendations. May make recommendation for human resources needs. Operational/Financial Management Ensures cost effective use of resources by identifying and implementing changes related to staff allocation and assignment, and patient/department supplies. Conducts case management activities and prepares monthly statistical reports on behalf of the security manager. Conducts all investigations resulting from initial reports, both internal and external with guidance and on the behalf of the security manager. Supervises the Security Control Center operations. Coordinates support to all enterprise facilities in the areas of CCTV, Badging, Access Control and Alarms Coordinates support to off-site clinics of Childrens Physicians or of Childrens Hospital & Medical Center. Assists senior security officer coordinators in performing their specialized functions. Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies and recordkeeping standards. May assist with the development and maintenance of policies and procedures. May participate in the implementation of business plans for the area. May assist with annual budget by tracking expenses and providing input for future budget needs.
  • Analyze and investigate all reports of workplace violence, threatening behavior, or concerns submitted to the security department. Conduct an analysis of all reports made to the security department of violent, threatening, or concerning behavior. Participate in the Threat Management Teams review of all incidents. Conduct any additional investigation or analysis that may need to occur. Participate in the safety planning to prevent or mitigate any violence that may occur. Provide victim services to staff of CHMC who are targets or victims of a threat, to include safety planning, protection order provisioning, schedule negotiations, parking changes, and continuous monitoring. Liaison with law enforcement personnel and ad-hoc members of the Threat Management Team to gather additional information Categorizes a reported threat initially before evaluation by the Threat Management Team Coordinate the documentation and follow up of cases submitted to the Threat Management Team
  • Coordinates the delivery of Security Services to other departments as well as off-site enterprise facilities Conducts crime prevention/safety training for all employees. Conducts active shooter/armed intruder training and site safety reviews. Visits off-site facilities Conducts risk assessments Meets with staff to hear concerns Investigates incidents Identifies security needs and arranges for provision of services under the direction of the Security Manager or Security Supervisor Makes recommendations to address security issues and concerns
  • Assists with development, implements, supervises and evaluates the security processes within the hospital and CHS assigned entities Manages the equipment and uniform ordering and issuing. Coordinate the needs for security support with other departments and clinics.

Education Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university. Equivalent experience may substitute for education. Required and
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum five years security, civilian law enforcement, or military experience is required Required and
  • Minimum two years experience in supervising Safety and/or Security functions preferred. Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Incumbent will be capable of demonstrating an understanding of security services within a healthcare organization, the relationship of security to the Joint Commission standards and an understanding of patient /employee rights of privacy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of employee management and educational skill necessary to meet developmental needs of the staff and achieve minimum standards of staff competency.
  • Demonstrate ability to plan, lead, organize, direct and control the activities of others.

Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required and
  • IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer within 1 Year Required or
  • equivalent Required
  • A valid drivers license and acceptable motor vehicle record/driving record required at time of appointment and maintained throughout tenure. Required
