AIM Institute’s Upward Bound & Talent Search Youth Academies empower underrepresented high school students to excel in secondary and post-secondary education, preparing them for tech-enabled careers of the future. This federally funded program serves students from low-income/under-resourced families and first-generation college backgrounds, providing them with the academic and career support needed to succeed.

We are currently seeking dynamic and passionate part-time instructors for our six-week summer program, teaching Science. Our students attend Omaha Bryan, Benson, Papillion-LaVista, Papillion LaVista-South, and Thomas Jefferson high schools.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, hands-on curriculum.
  • Create an inclusive, interactive learning environment that meets students' diverse needs and abilities
  • Attend a paid orientation on May 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Submit supply and equipment lists by June 2, 2025, to the Summer Academy Director
  • Upload lesson and assessment plans by June 2, 2025, to the AIM Student Portal
  • Lesson Plan and Curriculum revisions returned to instructors by June 6, 2025.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering confidence and motivation in students facing academic and personal challenges
  • Adapt teaching methods to engage and inspire students with varying skill levels
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirement: Certified teacher

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school or college teaching experience
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Ability to teach mixed-ability classes

Program Location: University of Nebraska - Omaha (Peter Kiewit Institute)
Program Dates: June 9, 2025 – July 25, 2025
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM with some variance for field trip days.

  • Teach five identical 40-minute classes three days a week
  • Paid an additional 1.5 hours per day for planning, grading, and lesson uploads

Screening: Background check required; position may be subject to drug screening
