Job Title: Applications Developer III
Compensation: $90,000-$130,000
Location: Hybrid-Omaha, NE or Remote

The Job:

Product-Focused, Collaborative, and Mentorship-Driven:
Buildertrend is looking for an Applications Developer who combines technical ownership with a product-driven mindset, a talent for clear communication, and a passion for quality.

In this role, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of software solutions, under the guidance of a Senior Developer or Manager, that truly meet our customers’ needs and exceed their expectations.  You will work closely with a team of developers to develop high-quality code that meets business requirements. You will also lead code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure the software is maintainable and of the highest quality.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with your team to research, empathize, and deeply understand customer needs. You’ll be proactive in delivering innovative, high-value solutions that delight users and solve real problems.
  • Write clean, maintainable code, leveraging established patterns and best practices. Perform code reviews, manual testing, and implement thoughtful automated testing to ensure the highest quality in all software.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and trends, evaluating and implementing advancements that align with our product and customer goals.
  • Participate actively in agile processes—including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives—offering insights and guidance to foster collaboration and efficiency.
  • Serve as a proactive, supportive team member, fostering trust, accountability, and a commitment to delivering outstanding results.

Who You Are and What You Need:

  • Experienced & Product-Oriented: A seasoned engineer with significant industry experience and a product-focused approach. You thrive on connecting technical decisions with business impact, always striving to deliver value for customers.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience required.
    • 2 years of experience in software development required.

  • Technically Proficient: You’re skilled in at least one major programming language (.NET, Java, etc.) and stay ahead of industry trends and best practices, particularly in agile development.
    • Experience with .NET, React, and SQL is preferred.
    • Experience with modern software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.).
    • Strong understanding of software design patterns and best practices.

  • Innovative & Curious: You challenge assumptions and ask “Why?” rather than accepting things at face value, pushing for deeper insights and meaningful solutions.
  • A Clear Communicator: Known for communicating with empathy and clarity, you adapt your communication style to engage diverse stakeholders—from junior engineers to product leaders and beyond.
  • Customer-Centric: You understand that the best technology solutions are those that align with and advance customer needs and goals. Quality is fundamental to everything you deliver.
  • A Thoughtful Influencer: You advocate for positive change, balancing open-mindedness with respect for established practices to build buy-in and drive improvement.
  • Collaborative & Team-Oriented: You believe a positive team dynamic enhances outcomes and enjoy contributing to a supportive, solution-focused environment.
  • Introspective & Growth-Minded: Constantly seeking opportunities for self-improvement, you view feedback as a tool for growth and encourage a culture of learning.
  • Proud & Purposeful: You take pride in your work, balancing ambition with a sense of fun and camaraderie that makes the journey as rewarding as the results.
