Job Description

?The purpose of the renewable energy internship position is to develop college students that are pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, business or a similar field. Interns will be exposed to a variety of projects and activities that occur within the energy business. Interns will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in college and demonstrate abilities in the workplace. The position is temporary, nonexempt, part-time/hourly.

Responsibilities

• Analysis and testing of substances. 
• Conduct research and analysis activities according to applicable regulations, manufacturing processes or other considerations and approve modification of standards, specifications and processes. 
• Review research, testing, quality control and other operational reports to ensure that quality standards, efficiency and schedules are met. 
• Prepare reports and technical papers. 
• Accurate, precise, safe and efficient sampling, sample preparation and analysis of facility liquids, gases and solids.
• Provide accurate, precise and timely reporting of results.
• Follow strict quality control procedures established through the instrumentation supervisor and adhere to California Environmental Protection Agency and United States Environmental Protection Agency’s analytical procedures.
• Perform work with moderate supervision and directions from supervisor.

Qualifications

• Must be a college student, second year or higher standing, currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in chemistry, science, technology, engineering, or mathermatics (STEM) field.
• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize patterns in data, information or events, to draw logical conclusions, to evaluate methods and procedures and to make recommendations for actions. 
• Ability to effectively use basic wet chemistry techniques, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, optical emission spectroscopy and x-ray fluorescent spectroscopy.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations used in the lab such as dilution and analysis of data statistics. Ability to calculate figure and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry and statistics. Capable of drawing and interpreting graphs.
• Effective oral and written communication skills to transmit information accurately and understandably. 
• Software skills to develop spreadsheets for data analysis. 
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
