Manages and supports Family-Teachers and Assistant Family-Teachers in assigned homes operations. Oversees proper implementation of and compliance with the Family Home Program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Oversees and supports safe and effective provision of services

  • Requires employees to adhere to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.

  • Attends safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.

  • Provides employees with on-going supervision and education related to safety and abuse risk.

  • Responds quickly and confidentially to reports of suspicious or inappropriate behavior.

  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Supervises the services of youth in assigned area

  • Interviews youth upon arrival to create service plans for youth and family served.

  • Facilitates team meetings with staff, youth, and consumers.

  • Reviews medication logs for completeness.

  • Assesses progress and analyzes results; identifies problems and creates solutions with Family-Teachers and Assistant Family-Teachers; monitors solution implementation.

  • Completes documentation for each youth and family served including progress reports, discharge summaries, and post-discharge recommendations.

  • Documents youth progress by reviewing Motivation Systems, service plans, school and employment performance, family contact, agency requirements, and medical or psychological needs.

  • Coordinates with consumers including school teachers, parents, and agencies.

  • Oversees home operations for program compliance, safety, and budgets.

  • Ensures licensing and accreditation standards are being met.

  • Supports youth and family activities through event attendance including athletics, school ceremonies, holidays, and extracurricular activities.

  • Provides transportation for youth as needed.

  • Monitors environment and ensures safe and secure conditions for youth.

  • Ensures safety in accordance with policies and procedures including youth safety, outings, and reporting guidelines.

Develops skills of Family-Teachers and Assistant Family-Teachers

  • Observes Family-Teachers and Assistant Family-Teachers and gives feedback; provides consultation.

  • Conducts training and review on a variety of relevant topics including home maintenance and budget, youth progress, consumer relations, professionalism, policies and procedures, and crisis intervention.

  • Conducts team service planning and administrative meetings.

  • Performs card or Motivation System reviews.

  • Reviews program administrative issues with teachers.

  • Creates staff development plan for Family-Teachers; helps Family-Teachers consistently develop family engagement Skills.

Fosters family engagement

  • Encourages families to participate in service planning process.

  • Ensures that service plans are individualized and build on child and family strengths, culture, and supports.

  • Creates mutual partnership between family members and Family-Teachers, by promoting good communication and encouraging collaboration.

  • Empowers the family to assess formal supports and services when needed.

Participates in presentations and committees

  • Assists in the development of written publications or other documents.

  • May assist in the preparation, production, and presentation of formal workshop training programs for Family-Teachers and Assistant Family-Teachers.

  • May act as an administrative or program representative on designated committees.

  • May be trained to become a certified Common Sense Parenting Instructor and as a certified instructor may be asked to conduct Common Sense Parenting (CSP) Courses at designated locations as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care.

  • Ability to work effectively with youth, families, staff, and support agencies. Ability to work with children and families from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

  • Independent decision making skills and competencies to work in crisis situations.

  • Knowledge of recognized interventions including risk assessment and crisis intervention to address treatment needs.

  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization and with external contacts in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.

  • Knowledge of Boys Town model.

  • Ability to quickly make decisions in sensitive and sometimes critical areas and present decisions to appropriate individuals. Ability to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.

  • Ability to lead a team of associates.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field required.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with at-risk youth and families required.

  • Possess a valid drivers license with a good driving record required.

  • Pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.

  • Provides own transportation (mileage reimbursed) to complete travel requirements of the job required.

  • Meet auto insurance requirements established by Boys Town policy and/or State and Local laws required.

  • Available to Family Teaching staff on a 24/7 basis required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Human Services or related field preferred.

  • Experience with Boys Town Model is preferred.
