Job Description Summary:

 

The University of Nebraska invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice President, Controller.

 

Position: This is a full-time position in the Business and Finance Office at the University of Nebraska. The Business and Finance Office is administratively responsible for all financial matters affecting the University of Nebraska and provides financial oversight services to the Board of Regents, the President, the Chancellors, administrative officers, and others on the four campuses of the University system and within the Office of the President. The AVP/Controller is responsible for establishing procedures and practices that ensure strong internal controls and financial integrity.

 

This position is located in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the University of Nebraska Office of the President. Duties and responsibilities of this position involve leading, collaborating and working with university campus peers and senior leadership on the preparation of financial statements, coordination of audits, monthly and interim financial reporting. One needs experience in identifying tax issues relevant to a tax-exempt organization. This position serves an important role in working with colleagues at the State of Nebraska for financial accountability and reporting. Lead and guide bond financing efforts to ensure capital and strategic projects by working closely with bond attorneys, underwriters, and the System CFO.

 

Salary will be commensurate with experience and credentials, plus benefits. The successful candidate will be required to complete a credit check and criminal background check.

Qualifications:

 

Required:

Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of progressively responsible work experience in accounting and financial reporting. An active CPA license.

 

Preferred:

Master's degree. Work experience directly related to higher education or government accounting. Significant participation in financial statement and compliance audits.

 

Ideal candidates will demonstrate: a high level of attention to detail and excellent analytical skills; excellent independent judgment and decision-making skills; excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills; an aptitude for strategic thinking; an ability to anticipate problems; a track record of timely completion of projects and assignments; effective leadership and supervisory skills; the ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks; and a keen ability to summarize and explain financial complexities.
