Volunteer Coordinator

About Us:

The Stephen Center is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to providing shelter services and support programs for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Omaha, NE. Our mission extends to offering the HERO addiction recovery program and permanent supportive housing units, aiming to empower and uplift those in need. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Volunteer Coordinator to join our team.

 

Purpose: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of the volunteer experience at Stephen Center, including the recruitment, on-boarding, training, and assignment of volunteers from various sources (individual, group, corporate). Additionally, this role will facilitate campus tours for individuals and groups, offering insight into our services and impact. The Volunteer Coordinator will ensure that volunteers are effectively engaged and feel valued while contributing to the fulfilment of Stephen Center's mission.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment & Outreach:

•              Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies to attract individual, group, and corporate volunteers.

•              Build relationships with local community organizations, businesses, schools, and other potential volunteer sources.

•              Coordinate with marketing and communications teams to promote volunteer opportunities via social media, newsletters, and other platforms.

  • On-boarding & Training:

•              Manage the volunteer on-boarding process, including application review, background checks, orientation, and necessary training.

•              Create and maintain a volunteer training program that equips volunteers with the knowledge and tools to support Stephen Center's programs.

•              Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and safety protocols for volunteers.

  • Assignment & Scheduling:

•              Assign volunteers to appropriate roles based on skillsets, interests, and availability, ensuring alignment with organizational needs.

•              Maintain a volunteer schedule, ensuring adequate coverage for critical activities.

•              Manage group volunteer projects, coordinating with internal departments and external partners.

  • Campus Tours:

•              Conduct individual and group tours of the Stephen Center campus to educate the community on our mission and impact.

•              Develop engaging, informative content for campus tours, tailored to various audiences (corporate partners, community groups, potential donors).

  • Volunteer Retention & Recognition:

•              Foster a positive volunteer experience by maintaining open communication and providing ongoing support.

•              Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events and initiatives to recognize and celebrate contributions.

•              Collect feedback from volunteers to continually improve the volunteer program.

  • Data Management & Reporting:

•              Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, roles, and contributions in the volunteer management system.

•              Provide regular reports to the Chief Experience Officer on volunteer program metrics and goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (social services, non-profit management, communications) or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in volunteer management or similar roles in a non-profit environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working with diverse groups of people.
  • Experience in planning and executing large volunteer events and corporate partnerships is a plus.
  • Familiarity with volunteer management software or databases is preferred.
  • Passion for serving individuals experiencing homelessness or in addiction recovery programs.

 

Work Environment:

  • Full-time position, primarily on-site, between the hours of 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Will consider a remote work environment from 2:30 PM-5:30 PM.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to support volunteer events or tours.
