JOB OVERVIEW

Under the general supervision of the Administrative Operations Manager or designee, performs a variety of skilled administrative work related to cases in the County Attorney office requiring considerable responsibility and independent judgment. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Provide a variety of administrative support for assigned attorney(s).

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with
clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the general public.

Maintain the confidentiality of all information for assigned attorney(s).

Ensure case information and evidence is scanned or input into various systems in a timely and accurate manner.

Prepare evidence and other documentation required for attorney's cases ensuring all parties affected receive the information in a timely manner.

Maintain various calendars of attorneys and/or courtrooms working with outside counsel and others as needed to facilitate caseload.

Prepare various legal documents (e.g., subpoenas, motions, etc.) at the direction of assigned attorney.

Answer phone calls from outside counsels, victims, etc. assisting with information within scope of responsibility.

Assist in retrieval of court case documents in the office.

Escort Officers, Deputies or defendants through the courthouse as needed.

Act as a backup to other departmental staff as needed. 

Report to work with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
 

Peripheral Duties

Serve as a member of various committees as assigned. 

Perform other duties as directed and assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience:  

High school diploma or GED required.

Post-Secondary education in Criminal Justice or similar field preferred.

Paralegal certificate or Associates degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Three (3) years legal experience required.

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of computers and software programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office

Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures 

Knowledge of the legal system.

Ability to maintain and protect confidential and sensitive information

Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions

Ability to navigate stressful situations while maintaining composure

Ability to understand and follow exacting verbal and written instructions

Ability to prioritize work and carry out assigned projects to completion

Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing

Ability to operate equipment including, but not limited to, multiline phone, computer, printer, scanner, copier, and fax

Required sensory abilities include vision and hearing. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges include close, distance, and color vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk (verbal exchange) and hear within normal range.

Work is performed indoors in an office setting. Work hours may include evenings, weekends, call-ins, and holidays. Work may be fast-paced when dealing with multiple priorities and time constraints. The noise level is typically moderate.
