The Interpublic Group of Companies, Inc., is one of the world’s largest organizations of advertising agencies and marketing services companies. It includes four global operating divisions: McCann-Erickson WorldGroup, FCB Group, The Partnership and the Constituency Management Group. The company also maintains a group of stand-alone independent agencies: Interpublic Aligned Companies. Interpublic pioneered the concept of the advertising agency holding company with its formation in 1961. It was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1971 and trades under the symbol IPG.
Interpublic’s agencies and allied companies operate in approximately 130 countries around the world and employ more than 43,000 people. The company is represented in cities that are the centers of all major international, regional and local business activity.
Interpublic Group, the corporate parent, is based in New York City. It sets company-wide financial objectives, establishes fiscal management and operational controls, provides strategic direction, guides personnel policy, plans top management succession, coordinates global investor relations and initiates, manages and approves mergers and acquisitions. In addition, Interpublic provides centralized functional services, located in Omaha, Nebraska and London, England, that offer its companies operational efficiencies, including: accounting and finance, marketing information retrieval and analysis, legal counsel, real estate expertise, recruitment aid, employee benefits and executive compensation management.
With Interpublic providing oversight and centralized services, the operating companies are free to focus on their clients’ marketing and communications opportunities and on the development of their own talent.
