Position Description

 

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for analyzing, designing, developing and maintaining complex application systems in the Gavilon distributed computing environment. Responsible for working with various levels of end-users and programming staff to analyze, define and implement computer solutions for business needs.
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Gather requirements via discussions/meetings with users, peers and management
  • Design solutions to business issues, partnering with assigned business areas and understand the challenges and opportunities from their perspective
  • Assist in the design, development, implementation and support of functional specifications related to all aspects of projects while working within established timeframes and budgets
  • Isolate and diagnose application problems, including root cause analysis for incident elimination
  • Perform and coordinate the testing effort to ensure that configurations and customizations fulfill user requirements. Coordinate end-user testing
  • Develop implementation plans
  • Perform all assigned production support duties, including on-call rotation, handling problem calls with relevant applications
  • Manage small to large-sized projects and processes as assigned
  • Communicate appropriately with management on status and issues
 Qualifications/ Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Four-year college degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years experience in developing / maintaining complex applications.
  • Experience in designing and performing system tests desired.
  • Project management experience a strong plus.
  • Customer service focus in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand business needs and write IT requirements and functional designs and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, fast paced, matrix type environment, across teams and business partners.
  • Self-starter, able to work with process teams autonomously, and serving to deliver results at the tactical and strategic level.
  • Primary technical skills (required):
    • Visual Basic or C#
    • HTML / ASP
    • SQL Server 2000/2005
    • MS Office (Access, Word, Excel)
  • Supplemental technical skills (desired):
    • MS Sharepoint 2007 – Admin or Designer
    • EDI
    • MQ Series and/or Connect:Direct (middleware)
    • C#
 Physical Demands:
Operate standard office equipment including (but not limited to):
-     Personal Computer
-     Telephone
-     Calculator
-     Fax Machine
-     Copy Machine
 
Must be able to operate standard office equipment, remain seated at a desk for extended periods of time; lift up to 20 pounds as needed.
