Post Adoption Specialist
Job Purpose:
This position assists birth parents, adoptive parents, adoptees, and anyone else affected by adoption by responding to any questions presented and by aiding persons to the best of the agency’s ability.
Essential Job Duties:
• Counsel and educate clients regarding: Child Saving Institute and/or Heartland Family Services (via contract),
policies and procedures, Nebraska law, adoption regulations, and their particular adoption situation to enable clients
to decide what course of action they would like to take.
• Respond to all inquiry calls within 24 hours, and send inquiry packet within one week of contact.
• Complete and conduct adoption searches and intermediary services in an accurate and timely manner to ensure
compliance with legal requirements. Searches should be resolved within 18 months, and intermediary services
should be completed in six months.
• Assist and facilitate picture and letter exchanges between adoptive triad members within one week.
• Complete medical/social history requests for post-adoption clients within two weeks. All appropriate information is
shared, ensuring no identifying data is divulged.
• Perform documentation within one week of contact. Files must be maintained in accordance with guidelines
established by Council on Accreditation and agency policies and procedures.
• Complete four hours of recruitment for Child Saving Institute and/or the post adoption program on a monthly
basis.
• Gather data and calculate statistics regarding post adoption services on a monthly and quarterly basis.
• Attend and participate in local agency post adoption networking meeting on a monthly basis. Host such meeting
approximately once every three months.
• Complete monthly CSI paperwork and submit to appropriate parties by the fifth day of each month.
• Provide on-call services by carrying the emergency phone on a rotational basis.
Other Duties:
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
• Complete training necessary to perform position and for professional growth within a minimum of 16 hours a year.
• Facilitate a team atmosphere by working in partnership with other agency staff and promote a positive working
environment.
• Represent the agency and programs in a positive manner to clients, community organizations and the public, in
general.
• Show flexibility with regard to work schedule (to be determined by supervisor); some evening or weekend work will
be required.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field, with one year relevant experience preferred.
• Experience with adoption triad members preferred.
• Public speaking skills for training and recruitment efforts preferred.
• Ability to interact with clients with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics in the
service population.
• Ability to use both micro and macro level thinking.
• Strong direct service professional skills, including:
o Commitment to empowering others to solve their own problems;
o Belief in a nurturing family as the ideal environment for a person and that people have the capacity to
grow and change;
o Ability to develop respectful relationships with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence;
o Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and other professionals, and service providers; and
o Ability to: maintain a helping role, intervene appropriately to meet service goals, and set appropriate limits.
• Ability to work autonomously and make appropriate decisions in crisis situations;
• Own transportation, valid driver’s license and insurance that meets agency requirements.
• Ability to make logical decisions based on experience and expertise; and
• Ability to make independent decisions and act accordingly or with minimal support from supervisor.

pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Adoption Specialist
Job Purpose:
This position provides education and support to individuals/couples throughout the adoption process.
Essential Job Duties:
• Provides direct service to individuals/couples involved in adoption. Maintains a caseload of families, while
providing high quality services. Establish and maintain limits and helping role of practitioner and intervene
appropriately to address the needs of the persons served or other family members.
• Completes home studies as assigned by the program supervisor in designated time frames. All home studies should
be written and submitted for review within two weeks of completion of the visits.
• Prepares legal adoption documents and maintains knowledge of adoption laws in the state of Nebraska and Iowa.
• Stays aware of community resources for families.
• Presents or participate in education training sessions and support groups; a minimum of four times per year.
• Maintains client files with appropriate documentation for all direct contact with clients. Documentation must be
written and placed in client file within one week of client contact.
• Attends Adoption Center meetings with fellow staff members to staff cases once per month.
• Participates in four hours of recruitment activities per month.
• Provides on-call services by carrying the emergency phone on a rotational basis.
Other Duties:
• Completes other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
• Completes training necessary to perform position and necessary for professional growth - 10 hours per year
minimum in adoption topics.
• Facilitates a team atmosphere by working in partnership with other agency staff and promotes a positive working
environment.
• Represents the agency and programs in a positive manner to clients, community organizations and the public, in
general.
• Show flexibility with regard to work schedule (to be determined by supervisor); some evening or weekend work will
be required.
