Clinical Nurse Specialist, RN
Serves as a consultant to health care professionals and consumers within the health system and in the community. Functions as a change agent and problem solver throughout the consultation process. Represents and markets the health system.
Provides strategic vision and direction for the advancement of clinical practice related to the area of clinical expertise.
Collaborates with and/or participates in councils, committees, and with peers to identify and facilitate the educational and clinical needs of the healthcare team appropriate to the Clinical Nurse Specialist role. Participates in performance improvement activities.
Uses advanced clinical knowledge and practice experience, research, critical thinking, and leadership skills to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to promote quality care. Acknowledges the value of multicultural traditions and demonstrates this when caring for clients.
Promotes continuity of care for referred high-risk clients along the entire continuum of care including inpatient and community-based services.
Education/Licensure
Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Must have a Current Registered Nurse License in Nebraska or Iowa, Nebraska and Iowa are compact states, so license must be held in the state of your residence.
Masters degree with a major in nursing that includes a clinical specialty tract. NRP, ACLS recommended depending on practice.
A Current Clinical Nurse Specialist license in Nebraska and/or Iowa. License must cover the state in which the CNS is practicing. Must have passed an approved national certification examination, or if such an examination is not available, may meet an alternative method of competency assessment as determined by the Board of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.
BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say Professional Level-with AED, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Preferred: Specialty certification.
Experience
Required: Minimum of three years of clinical practice as a registered nurse with two years experience in area of specialty.
Preferred: Experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Leadership experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Skilled in oral and written communication, conflict resolution, time management, critical thinking, and decision making. Ability to work as a member of a team. Possesses leadership qualities congruent with organizational philosophy. Knowledge of and ability to operate computer/CRT. Knowledge of and ability to operate all patient care equipment appropriate to division of care. Job requires continuous verbal communication skills. Job requires frequent reading skills and written communication skills.
